If you own the P90X program, you may be asking yourself what type of equipment do I really need for the P90X work out. In this article, you will discover some of the critical P90X workout equipment that you must have.

P90X creator Tony Horton designed the 12 workouts that come with the program to be something that could be performed at home with just a few simple pieces of equipment. You will not have to buy into a pricey Bio Force TNT or other gym equipment. Yet you will still be able to reach that fit body that you’ve been trying to find.

These 12 videos take you through a 12 week or 90 day program to get a lean and ripped body. Unbelievably, it does work!

Here’s the list of equipment that you’ll need to complete your P90X regimen:

*Durable exercise bands

*Sturdy pull-up bar

*Perfect pushup devices or pushup stands

If you don’t like exercise bands, then you can consider purchasing a set of dumbbells. If that were the case, I would recommend adjustable dumbbells. Such as the one sold by Bowflex or a similar manufacturer. Bear in mind though, that they are not cheap. If you don’t mind changing, plates or having multiple sets lying around, then you can buy fixed weight dumbbells.

The Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells for example offers resistance from 5 pounds to 52.5 pounds, and they will run you $399. However, you can get up to 250 pounds of resistance with the help of the Bodylastics Terrell Owens resistance bands. Yet you’ll pay less than $100 and have a lifetime warranty against any defects.

Personally, I prefer resistance bands, not only because of the lower price, but because they are portable, adaptable and more versatile than the set of dumbbells. In the event that resistance bands are more up your alley… I would recommend either the Bodylastics Home Gym or The Golds Gym Resistance Bands. However, the Bodylastics does have more options than the Golds Gym Set.

Now, let’s take a look at what type of chin up bar is required in the power 90 extreme workout program… There are some options here, if you’re looking for low-cost. You can use the resistance bands to do pull downs, instead of doing chin-ups or pull ups. If you want to follow the exact program, then look for a basic doorway chin-up bar, which will run around $20 as opposed to the $50 you’ll have to pay for the one sold by P90X.

When it comes to push-ups do you really need push up stands or a perfect push-up? Well, they are nice to have but are not necessary to complete this 90 day workout. Hey, you want to truth don’t you? The main reason to use either of these devices is to reduce the strain on your wrists so you can really push through on a deep push-up, but using two chairs will give you the same results. The nice thing about the perfect push-up and the stands are that they’re both relatively cheap and you should be able to find a set for $30 or less.

That’s really all the equipment you’ll need for a P90X workout, though if you’re working on a hard surface, you may also want to add a floor mat to the list.
