Losing Weight With Low Carb Dieting
Recently low carb dieting has become a lot more popular, helped along the way by the famous Atkins diet. So many people are trying to lose weight, and looking for a quick and easy way to do it. Even people who don’t have a medical reason for losing weight, who aren’t overweight, still want to cut down on their fat for purely cosmetic reasons, while other might have hundreds of pounds they need to lose.
There are many different diets out there including low carbohydrate diets and the truth is that most of them will achieve weight loss if they are followed correctly. This does not mean always doing what the diet says every moment of every day. What is more important is how you deal with the inevitable occasion when you eat too much or feast on foods that are not on the plan. If you can write this off and return to the plan without giving yourself a hard time, you are likely to succeed. Everybody has those days – the important thing is to let them go and accept them as just another step on the road to permanent weight loss.
To help you keep to your diet, it is important that you pick a diet to follow that you can easily keep to – something with simple rules, that doesn’t require you to have a degree in math just to understand it. No big tables or calorie calculations, just an easy-to-follow direction: Avoid high carb foods. Simple. Foods like bread (especially white bread), pasta, or potatoes, are all very high in carbohydrates – and sugar of course is pure carb. So just try to eat less of these, and more meat and vegetables.
The biggest criticism people have for low carb diets, is that following it risks introducing very high levels of fat from dairy and meat products, which can cause high cholesterol, among other problems. So before you start trying something like this, it’s a good idea to check with your doctor, or other medical expert. That’s a side note though – something else worth considering is that although low-carb diets usually work very well to start with, they often don’t succeed long-term because people can’t stick to them! Think about it: how long can you go, without eating potatoes?
Bread and pasta, in particular, are very hard to give up. Can you imagine living with no pizza, or spaghetti? Modern food does tend to be very carbohydrate-heavy. Think of burgers with buns, fries and chips, and of course all the sauces people use to flavour foods. These are all high in carbohydrates. Most diets restrict alcohol as well, because they are high in calories, but they are also very high in carbs as well, so low-carb diets in particular advise against drinking. Although some might view this as a good reason to try another kind of diet…
Still there are many foods that can be enjoyed on a low carb diet. If you are fond of meat you will relish the opportunity to consume beef, chicken and other animal products. The popularity of these diets is clear from the length of time that they stay on the bestseller lists. It is just a matter of what suits you. Low carb dieting works for many people.
