For people who have tried every possible diet or exercise regime in an effort to reduce a bulging stomach, a tummy tuck may be the right solution. A tummy tuck procedure is a cosmetic operation which is used to remove excessive fat from around the abdomen while also tightening the muscles in that area. However before anyone chooses to have this sort of surgery they should first make themselves fully aware of what it entails.

There are certain healthy habits that you should incorporate into your life before you undergo surgery. It is important that you avoid smoking, unhealthy food, or excessive drinking for two weeks prior to and two weeks after your surgery. Prior to surgery you may even need to be brought off certain medications, if your doctor advises this.

The tummy tuck procedure is the most suitable for people who have tried to lose weight on their own first, but having done so were unable to firm up their saggy abdomens. Females who have had kids and are left with a saggy post pregnancy belly will also be considered suitable.

Most importantly, the individual, man or woman, should be healthy, as judged by their physician before any kind of cosmetic surgical procedure be taken. People with heart problems or current gastrointestinal issues may be unsuitable for this type of surgery. Of course, a tummy tuck is not a weight-loss operation and should not be considered as such. When you have lost the weight you want to and are wanting to tone your stomach, then you may consider the tummy tuck operation.

Most people will be excited and encouraged by the results of their tummy tuck operation. But be aware that you won’t be able to show off to your friends straightaway. A recovery period of 2 to 3 months is needed after surgery. And don’t attempt any high stress exercise or other physical activity for at least six months. Do bear in mind also that the incision area must be kept absolutely clean and dry to avoid infection. Once you are completely recovered, you will notice that the scar remains. However, your physician can prescribe creams or scar removal serums to help diminish the mark in time.
