Both men and women want flatter and leaner abs. However, when it comes to female abs, there seems to be some confusion. Other than the variation in fat and muscle distribution and percentage composition between men and women, both men and women have the same muscle groups with the same fat-variety and share the same kind of problems. The question is why are women walking away from the same exercises that would help them achieve a flat and toned stomach they so desire?

The problem begins within the mind where most women start thinking about their abs. Weight training has always been thought of at as the domain for men. Without the knowledge of well-planned exercise schedules that can actually work for both men and women, instructors make the common mistake of planning routines that are said to be “women-friendly”.

A full-body exercise regimen is the ideal way to directly reduce the fatty layer, build and strengthen the muscles around the abdominal region. Whether you are a man or a woman, if you are looking to burn off your abdominal fat, then you need to understand the concepts behind it. The fat-burning capability of these exercises is based on the human body’s fat-burning principles, which are the same for men and women.

By adding resistance to your training regimen, you create leaner muscles, something that most women may not realize. Their perception comes from watching men with huge muscles, lifting big dumbbells and barbells. However, if your diet is such that it doesn’t add bulk to your body, you are unlikely to gain bulk no matter how much weight you workout with.

By keeping the repetitions and count same while increasing the resistance, you ensure that your muscles keep building up on strength while burning the fat above and underneath the muscles. You can also optimize the benefits of a cardio-workout by varying the intensity of your exercises.

The addition of a healthy, nutrient-rich diet ensures that the body has everything it needs to get through each day. Not only does your diet give you energy for the exercise routines, it also helps you get through the rest of your day and enable muscle-recovery to prepare you for the next day’s schedule. Given the important role that diet plays in achieving perfectly toned abs, how can we even think of anything processed or packaged?

The importance of the right full-body exercise regimen combined with proper diet are they keys in the pursuit of washboard abs. Male and female abs are built the same way and react the same way to the right kind of exercise and diet. The only thing that stands in the way between you and a toned stomach is your commitment and dedication to the process.

By sticking to a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy fats and the right amount of proteins, our body stands to gain plenty of vital nutrients and energy-rich substances to get through those exercise routines. Female abs, like male abs, require a combination of a healthy diet and a strenuous exercise regimen to stay in shape. Make sure you give it all that and more as you work your way towards a healthier life.
